D. Buried Utility Warning and Identification Tape: Aluminum foil plastic-backed tape or magnetic
plastic tape manufactured specifically for warning and identification of buried piping.
1. Tape: Detectable by electronic detection instrument, 80 mm (3 inches) minimum width, color
coded for utility involved, with warning and identification imprinted in bold black letters
continuously and repeatedly over entire tape length.
2. Warning and Identification: Read CAUTION BURIED WATER PIPING BELOW or similar.
Code and Letter Coloring: Permanent, unaffected by moisture and other substances contained in
trench backfill material.
2.2 ABOVE GROUND SYSTEMS
A. Piping Systems: Provide fittings for changes in direction of piping and for connections.
1. Make changes in piping sizes through tapered reducing-pipe fittings; bushings not allowed.
2. Perform welding in shop; field welding not allowed.
3. Conceal piping in finished spaces.
B. Sprinkler Piping: NFPA 13, steel, copper, or plastic as indicated on Drawings or scheduled.

for sizes 200 mm (8 inches) and greater.
(1) Threaded Pipe Less than Schedule 40: UL listed or FM approved for fireprotection
sprinkler systems .
b. Schedule 10 and Thinner Pipe: Do not thread; cut groove.
c. Pipe: Marked with name of manufacturer, kind of pipe, and ASTM designation.
d. Galvanized Pipe: Provide at locations exposed to weather.
e. Fittings: UL listed or FM approved, ASME B16.4 cast iron, ASME B16.9 or B16.11 steel,
