4.3.4. Cylscale simulations
Model has been calibrated to simulate accurately final roll temperature.
Computed bottom and top final surface temperature has the same asymmetry found on measurements.
This level of model/measurement concordance allows us to simulate further changes on cooling device
to reduce temperature gap before any intervention on stand and estimate the most effective actions,
optimizing cost and time needed for changes.
Another important point is that production constraints such as increase of productivity (reduction of
inter strip time, when rolls are cooled) may result in a not acceptable increase of roll temperature. A
well calibrated model is able to determine the impact of this kind of changes on rolling conditions under
roll temperature and then justify improvements on cooling system.
Concerning thermal fatigue indicator, the computed values are too low and does not allow us to take
conclusions about the severity of each kind of campaign sent by Dunkirk.
