Manchester United's return to the Champions League didn't go according to plan, losing 2-1 to PSV in their opening group stage game.
However, the result was overshadowed by Luke Shaw's injury, with the disappointment of losing their best-performing player for the rest of the season, essentially, having greater implications than just that one result.
Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian have all played at left-back since Shaw's leg break, with Ashley Young also vying for the spot. The frustration of not having Shaw available, though, particularly after he had started the season so well following the extra training he undertook in Dubai during his summer holiday, is huge.
Still, United will soldier on, and a home tie in the Champions League should be a good place to get their season in Europe back on track.
Wednesday night's opponents, Wolfsburg, are also looking to bounce back, following a disappointing week for them. At the weekend, they drew to the team at the bottom of the table in the Bundesliga, Hannover, after getting thrashed 5-1 by Bayern Munich days earlier.
Wolfsburg did win their opening game of the group, and as the road team they are under less pressure than United. The home side need a win to get their campaign up and running.
