d. FAB TechnologyThe fluidized aerobic bioreactor includes a tank in any shape filled up with small carrierelements. The elements are specially developed materials of controlled density such that they canbe fluidized using an aeration device.A biofilm develops on the elements, which move along with the effluent in thereactor. The movement within the reactor is generated by providing aeration with the help ofdiffusers placed at the bottom of the reactor. The thin biofilm on the elements enables the bacteriato act upon the biodegradable matter in the effluent and reduce BOD/COD content in the presenceof oxygen from the air used for fluidization. The technology is shown in Figure 5.89.
