Those in the “praxial” camp, however, feel that the true nature of the musical experience is most effectively illuminated when students are primarily and directly engaged in the performing and making of music itself: praxialists value performance above all other forms of musical engagement. Although these two camps of music education philosophy appear to be locked in an unceasing scholarly debate over many of their beliefs, there is one area where they are firmly, strongly united: their mutual distaste for advocacy.
