Sudanese police have clashed with thousands of protesters as they moved toward the United States embassy in Khartoum.Witnesses said police fired tear gas at the protesters.An embassy officer told VOA that more than 200 Sudanese SWAT team police officers were guarding the embassy grounds.The demonstrators were protesting a film made in the United States.They say the film insults Muslim and the Prophet Muhammad.Earlier Friday,thousands of protesters attacked the British and German embassies in Khartoum.They replaced the German flag with an Islamic one and set fires in the German embassy.Germany says all of its embassy employees are safe.
Other protests in answer to the anti-Muslim film produced in the United States are taking place in the Arab world.The most recent protests began in Tunisia's capital Tunis,where police fired tear gas at demonstrators who were throwing rocks.Some demonstrators jumped over the wall surrounding the American embassy.Friday was the fourth day of protests against the film.Many demonstrators have been targeting countries they believe did not do enough to stop the video from being made.Some of the biggest demonstrations have taken place in Cairo,Egypt.Police fired tear gas at protesters near the American embassy in Cairo.Protests have also taken place in Malaysia and Indonesia.In Libya,the American ambassador and 3 other American workers were killed in an attack Tuesday.
