If the condyle disk assembly is fully seated in centric rela- tion, the disk is positioned at the most forward position (on top of the condyle) that the posterior ligament allows. At this position, the forces from condylar loading are directed up through the medial third of the disk and forward through the anterior surface of the condyle against the steepest part of the eminentia. As the inferior lateral pterygoid muscle () starts to pull the condyle forward, the superior lateral ptery- goid muscle () releases contraction to allow the elastic fibers to start pulling the disk more to the top of the condyle.
