Analysis of the participants’ interview responses yielded three distinct types of out-of-class language learning experiences with technology: (1) instruction-oriented technological experiences, (2) entertainment and information-oriented technological experiences, and (3) social-oriented technological experiences. These three types of technological experiences varied in terms of the features of the resources, learners’ motives for using the resources, the nature of learners’ interaction with the resources, and the reported language gains from the experience. In addition, there was a special type of technological experience that involved the use of technological tools to assist the afore-mentioned three types of technological experiences.
