People’s ignorance about the ‘true’ effects of air pollution was evident in their daily practices such as blocking the eaves to prevent cold, dust and mosquitoes. In addition, people’s actions might be justified given the poor housing available in their communities and their lack of resources to facilitate residential moves to better houses.
