This difficulty in recognizing species complexes can be directly related the paucity of morphological characters of certain species, which can produce misinterpretation of alleged cosmopolitanism. Pinheiro (2007) noted that 94% of species recorded to Brazil were endemic to the Neotropical Region, and that the remaining 6% were composed of species with few taxonomic characters, such as Eunapius fragilis (Leidy, 1851).
