A man suffered a back injury while skiing in Okanagan, on Saturday, expected to recover after being rescued by helicopter. A VSAR spokesperson believes having helicopters ready for rescue has helped ensure patients are not further injured during transport.

VSAR's search director, Trevor Honigman, said: "It's a blessing to have this helicopter with the ability to winn over the terrain... it really contributes to this object being able to get off the mountain early and not have a back injury anymore". VSAR said due to the severity of the back injury, rescuers chose to take the skier out by helicopter to ensure he was not over-moved. "Helicopters can land relatively close to the subject without always being. A lot of times this happens in terrains where we have to use wintons and we really can't land helicopters," Honigman said.
