Guanshiyin possesses great authority and supernatural powers … For this reason, living beings should constantly keep the thought of her in mind. If a woman wishes to give birth to a male child, she should offer obeisance and alms to Guanshiyin and then she will have a son blessed with merit, virtue, and wisdom. And if she wishes to give birth to a daughter, she will have one with all the marks of comeliness, one who in the past planted the roots of virtue and is loved and respected by many people.
