Data were collected between January and February 2009 by means of a mail survey. The Swedish database “Affärsdata” was used as a sampling frame, as it contains all firms active in Sweden. In early January of 2009, this database contained 384 firms fulfilling the criteria above. The average firm had 349 employees and an average annual turnover of €57.2 million. Ex ante to the survey, each of the 384 firms was called in order to identify the individual responsible for NPD and to explain the contents of the survey. Based on this phone call, 29 firms were dropped from the sampling frame. These firms either lacked internal product development, lacked internal production, or had gone bankrupt or merged with other firms. Consequently, the adjusted sampling frame contained 355 firms.
