Family functioning is the outcome of a family’s ability to solveproblems and foster communication to meet the needs of theirchild with ADHD and to use family resources and other sourcesof support (Chen & Instone, 2008). In this study, family function was measured using the Family Assessment Device (FAD;McCubbin et al., 2001). Family resources are the capabilitiesand strengths of the family to resist crises and achieve harmony and balance.The components of family resources in this study includedcaregiver health, family support, family hardiness, and familycharacteristics such as marital relationship, employment, andannual family income, all of which may facilitate ‘‘familyenergy’’ (Chen & Clark, 2007) to overcome conflict.
