The use of psychotropic drugs is well documented amongst many indigenous tribes of the Americas. It is believed and with good reason that the Paracas, Proto-Nazca and Nazca cultures were no strangers to these rituals. Such experiences would have had a bearing on the visionary content of the textiles. Textiles, in that sense, would have had a mnemonic function to capture the visions of the bygone dream. Ritual drug taking amongst the priesthood would have had at least three functions: to question the Gods, to attempt the penetration of other spheres of existence and most importantly to engage in a personal journey of transformation.
