Usage Requirements
To process incoming shipments most efficiently, our vendors are required to apply a GS1US-EAN 128 shipping label to all cartons. Cartons shipped to all of our facilities must have the bar coded shipping label. (Reference - www.GS1US.org)
The bar coded shipping label used in conjunction with the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and the Advanced Ship Notice (ASN) will allow the vendor and L.L.Bean to know precisely what is in each carton before shipping and during processing at our facility.
Purchasing
For those vendors who do not currently produce their own bar coded shipping labels or who do not have a supplier who prints them on request, many options are available for generating labels. You need to make the best business decision for your company. Contact your Packaging Specialist for those options.
Manfacturer's ID Number
A GS1US manufacturer's identification number is required to correctly generate each unique carton identification number. If you do not already have one, apply for your ID by getting in touch with www.gs1us.org for information. There is a fee to obtain your number.
You must provide your Packaging Specialist with a sample of the label prior to using it for shipping. We will review the content, format and bar code for conformance to our requirements. The sample bar codes will be scanned with a bar code verifier to ensure they meet or exceed American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Grade B requirements.
Your ASN and GS1US-EAN-128 bar coded labeling process must be operational as of your first production shipment to us. In the event that you cannot comply with these requirements, a charge will be issued. (See Chargeback).
