Multiple-component sliding block analyses are more consistent
with actual earthquake loading conditions than singlecomponent
analyses, and may be appropriate for important
cases for which the difference may be significant ~e.g.,
steeper slopes and/or high static factors of safety!. Because
computed displacements are influenced by the details of the
input motions, including the phasing of the various components,
stable estimates of permanent displacement will require
analyses of suites of input motions.
