Face GuardsFace guards are used in a variety of sports to protect the face from carried or flying objects during a collision with another player (Figure 6-7). Since the adoption of face guards and mouth guards for use in football, mouth injuries have been reduced more than 50 percent (Figure 6-8A). The catcher in base-ball, hockey players, lacrosse players, and football players should all be adequately protected against facial injuries, particularly lacerations and fractures (Figure 6-8B, C, and D)
