The unit is attractive, and appears to be well constructed. The setup process was described clearly in the instructions, and did not take long to execute. I was up and running and completed the process to synchronize the remote sensor, without any issues. I received the desired outdoor/indoor, temp/humidity, barometer readings, and forecast symbols for almost (2) weeks. The clock, calendar, and lunar phase are preset, and appear to be relatively accurate - within a couple of minutes [this unit does not receive an atomic clock signal, and auto-sync] At start-up, the unit is in "learning" mode for (14) days which allows the unit to self-calibrate. [Pros = Beautiful design, and provided exactly the basic local/ambient readings I was seeking in an ergonomic, contemporary & user friendly design.] [Cons = The "automatic" display light dimmer setting does not utilize a built-in photo sensor to adjust the display lighting, based on the actual room light levels. At 6:00 AM in the morning the unit switches to maximum brightness, and at a preset time in the evening, the unit switches to a diminished display light level. If the unit is located in a bedroom or office location, and the room is often still dark when the unit switches to maximum brightness, this feature may not be desirable. The auto adjust display lighting offsets an hour once a year to compensate for the change in sunrise. Major Issue: Unfortunately, the remote sensor stopped communicating with the base station, just prior to the expiration of the calibration period - 12 days ( sensor placement 30 feet from base station - wall mounted - not within 10 feet of any electrical devices - no major obstructions - signal strength at 4 bars - then the signal would simply disappear - completed all of the procedures to re-synchronize a dozen times, unsuccessfully able to restore the remote sensor connection for any extended period of time). AcuRite customer support promptly shipped me with a remote sensor replacement (1 year manufacturer's warranty). The replacement sensor synchronized, and then lost signal after several hours. Completed the process for Amazon to replace the entire defective unit, and instead received a used/"refurbished" unit with a damaged face plate, not in the original internal packaging. I have returned both units, and Amazon has promptly refunded my account.] Recommendation: "You've got to know when to fold them..." - Perform a search for the best rated "personal weather stations", and select a device which suits your needs & budget from the links provided.
