No clear change in the acritarch palynoflora is detectable in correspondence to the Ordovician–Silurian boundary. The presence of abundant cryptospore suggests the prevalence of a restricted, near-shore marine environment in
latest Ordovician–earliest Silurian times. In this region, a reduction in microphytoplankton diversity occurs well below the systemic boundary, and a relatively high-diversity acritarch microflora is fully re-established starting
only from the late Llandovery–early Wenlock (Kangshan
Formation)
