The correct balance between ferrite and austenite forming elements is quite important which can be controlled using certain relationships based on the ferrite or austenite forming tendencies of alloying elements and it depends both alloying and heat treatment conditions. A steel with low ferrite factor is expected to have high austenite potential resulting a high martensite content in the final product. More austenite is therefore expected to form in the high temperature heat affected zone (HTHAZ) of this steel during cooling [19,29–31].
