Web-Based Stress Management Therapies<br>The Internet offers advantages for stress management programming due to the accessibility, low cost, convenience, specificity, and anonymity offered through web-based interventions. Internet-based stress management programs that are interactive can engage people through self-tests, games, stress monitoring, personalized feedback, and social media, as well as a wide array of educational content. To the extent that effective stress management depends on changing perceptions, improving knowledge, and developing skills to cope effectively with stress, the Internet offers tremendous possibility for testing and refining interventions aimed at education and skill building. Randomized trials support the efficacy of online delivered stress management training for medical patients ( Carpenter, Stoner, Schmitz, McGregor, & Doorenbos, 2014), caregivers ( Kajiyama et al., 2013), and healthy adults (Heber, Lehr, Ebert, Berking, & Riper, 2016). In addition, web-based interventions extend stress management services to people who otherwise might not be treated in more traditional settings or might not engage with mental health or other professionals. An increasing number of insurance companies in the United States offer Internet-based health promotion programs or discounted fees for commercially available eHealth programs to their participants.
