The dependency of
depositional sequences on negative accommodation (whether in
continentalormarine settings), inadditionto the nature of bounding
surfaces, separates depositional sequences from other types of
sequence stratigraphic units, the formation of which may not require
negative accommodation (i.e., parasequences, genetic stratigraphic
sequences, transgressiveeregressive sequences in the sense of
Johnson and Murphy (1984), and systems tracts that form during
positive accommodation).
