The use of multiple measures in assessing the complex phenomenon of peer relationships is frequently recommended.The multiple methods employed in the present study include sociometric assessments,direct observatioll of social interaction between peers and peer interviews. Positive and negative peer nominations via sociometric measures were used to identify social status and reciprocal associations or mutual selection as a preferred playmate (Hall,l994). This method do not adversely affect the interactions between children and their peers . Nomination by classmatcs would indicate that a preference for the child with a disability as a playmate. Mutual nominations would be an indicator of friendship.
