All of our patients needed IMF for only
7 to 10 days after surgery, and they stayed on a softer
diet for 2 to 3 weeks. All patients were discharged
from our department 5 to 7 days after surgery. The
wound gradually healed, and normal oral conditions,
such as oral hygiene, mandibular movement, and
speech, gradually recovered 2 to 4 weeks after
surgery. All patients received removable denture, fixed
denture, or implant denture restorations 6 to
12 months after surgery to regain normal masticatory
function. All of the aforementioned results showed
that the described method is suitable for comminuted
mandibular fractures.
