Guilt, Difficult Relationships, Fatigue, Loss of Companionship, No time forself—All ofthese and many other realities are topics discussed with the caregiver. The goal of meeting with the caregiver separately is to provide encouragement, empathic listening, and support. These interactions can also be used to provide resources to help ease stress, to educate about the importance of self-care, to help them understand the dying process, and to identify and mourn their own losses even as they care for the Veteran. It is also important to note that separate caregiver meetings may be with more than one family member, with a significant other, or any person who is intimately involved with the Veteran.
