Aerobic and anaerobic sediments were sampled from the
top layer of sediment and sieved prior to use with a 2 m
screen following the OECD 308 guideline. Associated waters
were taken from the same location at the time of sediment
collection. The aerobic sediments and associated waters were
stored at approximately 4 °C with free access of air. The
anaerobic sediments were sampled to exclude oxygen and
stored at approximately 4 °C. All handling of anaerobic
sediment after collection and prior to testing was performed
under the exclusion of oxygen utilizing a blanket of nitrogen
gas.
