The cathodic side will have minimum corrosion ( more noble or more inert material ) and the anodic side will maximum corrosion ( less noble or less inert material ) . From the chart we can find for joints like steel to stainless steel ( 304 or 316 ) the potential difference is more and chance of moderate to good galvanic corrosion is there in presence of electrolyte. Whereas if the two materials are steel and cast iron or NiCu alloy 400 ( Monel 400 ) and SS 316 – the galvanic potential difference is not high and chance of galvanic corrosion is very less.
