3 weeks postoperatively a. Splinting (1) Day: Volar block splint is removed; continue with dorsal dynamic splint. (2) Night: Wear volar static splint (adjusted to 30 degrees wrist extension and 0 degrees MCP/IP extension). b. Therapy (1) Begin protected gradual active motion of MCP and IP joints within dynamic extension splint. (2) Dynamic splinting and exercise are the same as for management by immobilization from the 3 week period onward. 3. 4 to 5 weeks postoperatively: Initiate composite finger flexion with wrist in extension. Splinting continues between exercise sessions and at night until 6 to 8 weeks postoperatively, depending on the tendons involved and the patient’s ability to maintain extension.
