English chemist and physicist Michael Faraday was born in 1791 in Surrey, near London. because Faraday's parents were poor they could not afford to educate their son, and so the boy was given a training to the binder. While working in a binding workshop, Michael began reading books on physics and chemistry. One day he got to lecture Humphrey Davy, who was already a famous scientist. After the lecture, Faraday sent him his notes of the lecture. These recordings made Davy so impressed that he appointed Faraday as an assistant to his laboratory in London. Early in his scientific career, Faraday studied mainly chemistry and made several important discoveries in this area. Later, after Faraday turned to the study of electricity, he discovered an important phenomenon, which is now known as the Faraday effect
