Sensing of faults in a device as well as subsequent association of faults with the Remote Fault functionencodings is optional. Remote Fault (RF) is encoded in bits D12 and D13 of the Base Page. The default value is 0b00. Remote Fault provides a standard transport mechanism for the transmission of simple fault and error information. The Remote Fault function may indicate to the link partner that a fault or error condition has occurred. The two Remote Fault bits, RF1 and RF2, shall be encoded as specified in Table 37–3.
