As previously mentioned, Güler and Enünlü (2009) reported the
results from 1:2 scale 2-m-high model GRS walls, with concrete
facing blocks tested with full amplitude El Centro and sinusoidal
harmonic motion excitations, which were used as a part of the study
reported in this paper. The behavior of GRS walls was more than
satisfactory under the testing conditions, and no residual displacements
were observed. Measured maximum accelerations increased
with increasing elevation on the surface of the wall. Assessment of
the instrumented geotextile reinforcements showed that the maximum
average tensile strains occurred in the regions that intersected
the potential failure surface predicted by the Rankine theory
