The current work expands on this income model in several key ways to broaden and deepen our understanding of the pathways leading to career success. First, as noted, cognitive ability and physical attractiveness are well established as predictors in the career context. On the other hand, self-control has been established as influential in several areas of life, but has been largely neglected in the context of career outcomes. Thus, the current model incorporates dispositional self-control, cognitive ability, and physical attractiveness to further examine self-control in the career context and explore the extent to which these three prominent and influential factors provide unique information in this context, as they do not appear to have been studied together in previous research. Second, the inclusion of self-control, along with relevant theory and research (e.g., Converse, Piccone, & Tocci, 2014), highlights the potential role of additional factors in linking these predictors to career outcomes.
