The Analysis of Factors Affecting Work Performance
Two age groups receive a research which shows the influences of various factors on work performance. One group is made up of people in their middle age from forty five to sixty, while the other group consists of people in their young age from eighteen to thirty. Just as two groups differ largely in age, so the result of research dose which varies largely of the most and least influential factors and the proportion of different factors. However, we can use comparison method to analyze this graph.
In the first group, the elder one, money is the most influential factor which takes about 70% of the whole. And then, team spirit takes the second seat of all factors which is about 65% of the whole. Job security, about 20% of the whole, contributes to the least part of the work performance. Differing from the elder group, the younger group has the chance for personal development as the most influential factor which is more that 80%. Ranking second is the promotion prospect which is chosen by the majority of people with a rate of about 80%. Work environment is the last influential factor of work performance chosen by about 30 percent of the young group.
From the horizontal contrast, we can see large difference between the two groups. Two groups differ mostly in the chance for personal development for the young group considers it as the most influential factor with the rate of more than 80% while only about 40% of the elder group regard it as the influential factor of work performance. But evidently, the percentage of relaxed working environment gives the fact that more than 80% of the younger group attaches importance to this factor while only 30% of the elder group thinks the relaxed atmosphere can lead to a good performance.
From the vertical comparison, we can see the parallel between the two groups by analyzing the graph. Without doubt, team spirit is attached the same importance by the two groups as the 30% of the whole. So it is the same with working environment except for the different proportion. As slight difference there is, nearly half of the people in both groups argue that a competent boss is relating to their work performance. And the same phenomenon exists when it comes to another two factors, the job satisfaction and respect from the colleague whose rate is similar to each other.
Several reasons can explain so many differences. Different social background, economic situation and education background contribute to the different attitude and value toward work and life which is the main reason of this phenomenon. First of all, the younger group whose members maybe still studying in school and start to touch with the society, lack of the rule of thumb and practical understanding of the real society. It’s different for them to answer the question of the factors of work performance, so the result for research is from their plan and imagination for their future and incomplete knowledge of the society. In the period when the young people always like to create his own world by his courage and ability, they attach more importance to the personal development and promotion prospects which are not significant to the old people who are eager earn money to support family by following the rule of high paid but not the job security. Secondly, the high same rate of team spirit comes from the long succeeded education of collectivism, while the high similar rate of money results from the basic law of social development.
In conclusion, people from different age group keep different attitude toward the factors affecting work performance, while we can still find some similarities from them.
