This paper aimed to demonstrate the current and future potential use of UAVs in plant conservation. We believe that developing these applications will further open-up new lines of research focusing on thespecific needs of the conservation of plants. This is something the plant conservation community could greatly benefit from. However, we have also shown that UAVs do not offer immediate results and the associated permissions and processing activities should not be underestimated. UAV flying regulations, insurance, bureaucracy and extra costs need to be allowed for in project planning, as well as the need of many dependent accessories and low endurance battery issues.
