从2002年起，部分地方电视台开始推出“民生新闻”，使用当地的方言播报新闻。这种情况有它出现的合理因素，但是，就电视新闻媒体的特性，以及目前标准语的强势态势来看，使用方言播报新闻是不合时宜的，也是难以持续的。
