Unitas 6498 (before it was ETA) MENDYS branded wristwatch converted from a vintage pocket watch. Swiss Dial and Movement! Beautiful modern looking watch with an antique heritage. This was personally serviced by me. A labor of love ready for you to use and enjoy. A marriage watch of vintage quality and modern style!Don't pay more for these conversions when there is no evidence they've been serviced. If they can't show you the timing traces they probably didn't service it. I do this because I enjoy it, not to get rich. I am not a professional, but I take care and lots of pains to make sure the finished product (whether a movement or a watch) functions as well as it can. My prices are fair considering what you'll pay for just an Unitas 6498 movement that hasn't even been serviced. Add the 3 hours of labor into one of these done well and you'll find quite a value here. The case is ~44mm wide. 316 stainless steel, rose gold in color but it’s hard to show the color in pictures well. It has a black leather strap with alligator grain, which has never been worn. The back and front glass are both scratch resistant mineral glass. The glass still has the protective cling wrap on, but I took it off for pictures. The movement is a Swiss made Unitas 6498 16.5’’’ (16.5 ligne) mechanical hand winding watch movement. It’s is unmarked on the train bridge, but it is clearly a Unitas 6498 as stamped on the main plate. These were originally made for hunter pocket watch orientation (wind at 3, sub-seconds at 6); but make a very nice wristwatch conversion, such as this one! This movement is a brushed finished nickel/silver colored 15 jewel, Swiss made movement. The movement was disassembled, ultrasonically cleaned using L&R cleaning and rinsing solutions, reassembled and lubricated with Moebius D5, 9010, 941, 9504 and 8200. It was then timed and adjusted (regulated) as you see in the pictures to around +7 seconds per day dial down to around -1 seconds per day pendant up. The amplitude is great (over 340 degrees at lift angle 52 degrees) and the beat error is a fantastic 0.0ms. This movement is pretty easy to adjust the beat error on, so if one has a beat error of 0.4 or more, they likely didn’t service it. Also, getting the time dead on in one direction is easy. Getting it close (and balanced) between 2 or more directions is the real story. In other words, getting it looking good on the timer and keeping time when you wear it are two different things! This is the watch you will get so study the pictures. The dial and movement are 30+ years old and original. It's hard to tell the colors because taking photos of shiny things is challenging. It is a rose gold color and the movement is nickel/silver and goes well with it.The Unitas 6498 is Incabloc shock protected on both ends of the balance wheel for protection from drops/rough handling.Free USA shipping by first class mail. If you want Priority Mail within the USA it’s $5 to upgrade.International shipping is by first class international mail. No upgrade to a faster shipping method as they get too pricey to fool with. Customs/import fees are the responsibility of the buyer. The international shipping includes insurance due to non-delivery issues. Please be aware that the international shipping can be slow so don't hold that against me. I ship the day I receive the order or the next day unless I'm out of town for work and I try to change the handling time on my listings to reflect realistic expectations.
