All participants rated the eight perception attributes concerning user suggestions in the conceptual design stage above the midpoint of the nine-point Likert scale (Table 2), indicating agreement with the approach of user-involved symbol design. The results indicated that user suggestions enabled the participants to recognize user needs and preferences on symbols (6.83 out of 9), generate solutions better (7.17), generate solutions faster (7.33) and improve their focus on the design concepts (6.50). The suggestions from users were also perceived to provide motivation to produce user-fit solutions (6.00), to provide access to innovative solutions (6), to provide evidence on which to base design decision-making (6.50) and to be valuable for the design process (7.17). The perception ratings on ‘develop solutions faster’ were normally distributed, but those on the seven other attributes were not (ShapiroeWilk test, p < 0.05).
