5. Conclusions
This paper provides an insight into relevant application and
studies on the scroll expanders. The technical features and performances
of scroll expanders are introduced. The technical limitations
are discussed and summarized. In general, the refitted scroll
expanders have a relatively low efficiency due to suction/discharge
losses, mechanical losses, over-and under-expansion losses,
leakage, and heat transfer losses, etc. Various measures have been
taken to improve the expander efficiency, such as sealing, lubrication,
and modification of the scroll geometry, etc. The development
of commercial scroll expanders however is still at early stage.
