With the exception of Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) which required the collection and reporting of data,on the recovery of metals, environmentally hazardous fluids and the recycling of batteries and parts that were sold, limited standards were required by legislation (BERR, 2010). Over the last decade firms have increased their capabilities to manage the demands of increased legislation. With the advent of increased legislation many businesses have improved their internal capabilities by investing in new machinery and staff training to comply with the license regulations. Through the implementation of a PAS 125 type standard salvage firms are further increasing their capability through the use of codified transactional and operating processes. Increasing salvage agents capabilities also
supports the car crash repair centres in conforming to their standards and reduces the
risk of poor quality.
