Purpose and Scope:
To determine the amount of time it takes for a fabric with 100% water pick up to return to its original weight by using an infrared heater.
Apparatus and Materials:
Distilled water Gram scale Wringer Aluminum Liners Hot Plate Scale
Test Specimens:
3 inch diameter circle
Procedure:
Weigh dry sample and record in grams Soak sample in distilled water for 5 minutes
Re-weigh sample until 100% water pickup is obtained
If more than 100% pickup, use wringer to remove excess water Set the Hot Plate Scale to 100 degree F
Open
Place the sample on the aluminum pan liner Close
Press Start
When the sample returns to original weight, record time
Report:
Record number of minutes it took fabric to return to original weight
