Such programmes recognize the urgency of implementing practices such as eco-sensitive urban transformation, habitat rehabilitation, environmental awareness, stewardship activities, ecojobs, and integrated watershed planning, monitoring and biodiversity protection in urban areas, if development is to be sustainable. Critical to this is the need for an integration of biodiversity and urban planning practices (Sukopp and Weiler, 1988; Gyllin, 1999; Hahn, 2002; Alfsen-Norodom et al., 2004; Tezer, 2005).
