Chemically unmodified natural ingredients
Substances of botanic, inorganic-mineral or animal origin (except for dead vertebrates) and their mixtures and reaction products with each others.
Nature-identical substances
Only be used when natural substances cannot be recovered from nature using reasonable technique effort
Positive lists : Annex 2a, 2b
Derived natural substances
Are only justified if their function cannot be achieved using natural substances.
Should only be manufactured using processes which are modeled on physiological mechanisms. (mineral oil is excluded as a raw material)
The number of chemical conversion steps should be kept to a minimum.
The natural starting materials should preferably be of organic grade.
The environmental compatibility must be evaluated to ensure they can be returned without causing any problems to the natural circle.
Surfactants must meet strict requirements regarding their biodegradability.
