情境教学是教师有目的的激发学生相应的情感体验，引导其关注教学内容，产生积极态度倾向的行为，正确的情境创设能集中学生的注意力，尽快进入学习情境，激发他们的学习兴趣等。教师在创设教学情境时应注意简明凝练、有效实用、启发学生的思考等。但是，在实际的教学中，情境教学还存在情境形式化、操作下的情境教学走向异化、过分强调情境教学的“生活味”、创设假问题情境，忽视教学价值等一些主要问题。经过分析并结合案例归纳、总结出一些小学数学情境教学的创设策略。
