Dear Sirs,
Re: Cotton Piece Goods
We are in receipt of your fax of May 8th, offering us 200,000 yards of Cotton Piece Goods Art. No. C-342.
Much as we would like to cooperate with you, we just cannot see our way to entertain your offer, as the price quoted is too high to be workable. Similar goods of Indian origin are quoted here 15% lower than yours. We don’t deny your quality is definitely better than theirs, but the difference in price should, in no case, be as big as 15%.
In view of our long-standing business relations, we counter-offer, subject to your reply here within two days, as follows: “200,000 yards of Cotton Piece Goods Art No. C-342 at FRF 3.20 per yard CIF European main ports, other terms as your fax May 8th.”
For your information, the market is dull with a downward tendency, and there is little likelihood of any significant change in the near future. We hope our counter-offer is acceptable to you. Otherwise, we can only switch our requirements to other suppliers.
We look forward to your favourable reply.
Sincerely yours,
