Script training is a relatively new, functional approach to the treatment of neurogenic communication disorders. Script training was initially developed by Holland and colleagues to facilitate verbal communication on client-selected topics. As compared to a total communication approach to therapy, script training focuses more narrowly on reinjecting islands of relatively fluent, automatic speech into the conversation of individuals for whom speech production is no longer automatic. Script training is intended for those individuals who wish to speak relatively normally, within the limited context of a few practiced, reautomatized phrases, on a few personally important topics.
