Many decades ago, Hestrin and Schramm (HS) [97] developed a culture media, which is composed of 20 g/L glucose, 5 g/L peptone, 5 g/L yeast extract, 2.7 g/L disodium phosphate, and 1.15 g/L citric acid. It is the most common medium used for these types of bacteria due to these nutrients being present in most microbiological laboratories. However, some variations have been adapted for this standard medium to increase the productivity of BC by specific bacterial strains [98].
