Nondestructive evaluation of the pier was undertaken using ultrasonic pulse equipment. The direct method of measurement across the central pier was adopted in this test, and the pulse had a velocity of 6.43 km/s, giving an estimate of the concrete strength to be 46 MPa and the dynamic modulus to be 86,000 MPa. A similar value of the strength was also obtained from the rebound hammer tests. These strength values have been used in the numerical model for the pier and abutment.
