What you're saying is that the golden rule applies to mon-keys and pigs. But an important part of the golden rule is reciprocity. If we're going to count on others to treat us in certain ways, then we ought to treat them the same. And that makes no sense when those others are monkeys and pigs.They can't reciprocate. All we can expect of them is that they'll act like monkeys and pigs. We certainly can't expect them to apply the golden rule to us. If you want to apply it to them, if it makes you feel better to do it, fine. But you can't tell me we have a moral obligation to do it."
