Finally, planning from the future, i.e., attaining good aquatic habitats with healthy biological communities, helps define the levels of stress or the degree of rehabilitation needed with reference to the existing water bodies. Other environmental management approaches to enhancing urban aquatic habitats are discussed in Chapter 6 dealing with ecohydrology (Zalewski, 2000). While this book focuses on urban aquatic habitats, the need to address the entire watershed cannot be overemphasized, and specific measures serving such a goal have been presentedelsewhere (Zalewski et al., 2004).
